We want to regenerate

🌿 Nature offers a place of tranquility and keeps on offering rays of hope.

🌿 I invite you to act for a better future and to connect with nature.

🌿 The mission of Mood of Finland company is to act for a better future as hope without action maintains hopefulness.

We count on regeneration. You can find some articles about Regeneration in my blog such as Regenerative thinking goes beyond sustainability

🌿 We are all in the same boat, globally. Or we are in the middle of the same challenging storm, in different boats. Anyhow this planet is home for everyone and some of us just happened to born into better circumstances.

🌿 One of the key issues is empathy and compassion -willingness to help others and willingness to help nature to regenerate

🌿 By reconnecting to nature we create meaningful stories to share

Would you like to join our global community of Love Forest Finland?

Rakkauden Metsä – Love Forest Finland is a concept designed in Regenerative way. It offers a simple and beautiful way to incluence:

  1. You can plant a symbolic tree in any authorized place globally
  2. Dedicate the tree to somenone or to some cause important to you
  3. Purchase the certificate where the information and story of the tree is documented
  4. By purhasing the certificate you donate money to nature conservation
  5. Ten euros (10€) of each certificate is donated to Nature Heritage Foundation to conserve old forest (Luonnonperintösäätiö)

Please, find more information on our website: Love Forest Finland

Love Forest grows where the Love Trees are growing

The concept has been designed in a very simple way to ensure anyone can participate. There are two base camps in Finland but the basic idea is that Love Forest consists of all the trees, growing all over the globe without any boarders.

Planting a tree is a symbolic way to show care and love. Money donated to protect old forests is a small but important and beautiful way to act for a better future.

I have witnessed several beautiful tree planting moments. Not a single situation has been emotionless and the feedback has been always positive.

Planting a tree is not only beautiful and meaningful moment but also truly concrete way to connect with nature as you literally touch the ground and show care to the ”baby tree” . The tree connects us from the past to the present and far into the future as tree planted can live for hundreds of years.

💚 The first tree planted out of the Finnish boarders is situated in northern part of Spain, in Asturias. 💚
💚 Would your tree be the next one? 💚

Thank you!

Thank you for following the blog. I started to write the blog in October 2010 to encourage my Tourism students to start blogging as part of the personal branding. I established my company called Mood of Finland in October 2017 and I have worked as a full-time entrepreneur since January 2018.

Rakkauden Metsä – Love Forest Finland is a concept owned by Mood of Finland company. I dare to admit that I have not succeeded in making the concept of Love Forest Finland financially viable, but I trust that the time will come. I do encourage to design meaningful concepts, to do experiments with the principle of a low threshold and I encourage to listen to your heart.

Nature based Happiness

a woman hugging and kissing the tree

A French journalist challenged COVID-19 to understand Finnish happiness

As we were living the period of long awaited Christmas Holidays, there were not so many seizing the opportunity to host a French journalist coming to Finland at short notice – to discover the secret of happiness. I did not hesitate a moment when I was asked by Helsinki Marketing to take Corine (our guest)  for a forest walk and talk about nature and happiness.

There was an other reason that visiting Finland in December 2020 was not the easiest moment to come; crossing the borders was not self-evident as we lived in a time of strict travel restrictions because of COVID-19. Corine had taken the COVID-19 test twice with negative result and we agreed to wear masks indoors and keep safety distance outdoors.

I could have hosted the visit by my own, but it´s not the way I want to work. So I contacted other entrepreneurs to share this experience. Doing together makes me happy and it´s one of my company´s main values.

We were four entrepreneurs taking care of Corinne during her visit to Lake Tuusula. Risto Karjalainen (Adventuristo) and Jonna Granroth (Metsänautti) took care of the beautiful winter picnic by open fire during our forest walk. Our national artists as Jean Sibelius, Pekka Halonen, Eero Järnefelt and Eino Leino used to gather together to this same place (Sarvikallio) with their families to have picnic and to get inspired by nature.

Ulla-Maija (Ullis) Rouhiainen (Ullis Travel Studio)  guided us to the stories of the famous artist community of Lake Tuusula and later hosted Corinne´s  sauna experience in Helsinki.

Facts about happiness

Finland has ranked once again to be the number one in the UN´s Happiness report.  It takes into account factors such as healthy life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, gross domestic product (GDP), generosity, social support from friends, perceived corruption, as well as recent emotions of the respondents, both good and bad. (More info Forbes 26052020)

At the beginning of our meeting Corinne wanted to know if Finland’s success in the happiness survey surprised me. No, it didn´t – considering the factors measuring happiness.

I was thinking about happiness a lot three years ago when making the decision to establish my own company and taking an economical risk in my personal life. It was clear to me that establishing own company was about freedom to make life choices, possibility to live according to my values and about having a meaning in my professional life.

If I hadn´t dared to establish company in a country like Finland, I would have been quite a coward as we live in a very supporting society. I have had opportunities to study and got multiple skills – so I trust that if  I am willing to work and adapt to a basic standard of living, if necessary, I survive. Taking account the theme of  our meeting and the studies related to this article, it´s not, of course, only about surviving in life but also about finding the happiness and you can´t measure all in money.

The secret of Happiness

Yale University has launched very popular online course known around the world called PERMA -test. It promises to tell us what the secret of happiness is. The name of the test comes from words Positive emotions, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning and Achievement.

I red an article about PERMA -test some days before meeting Corinne. The article not only confirmed my thoughts of happiness but also taught something new. Which I totally agree is that gratitude and the importance of not comparing ourselves to others is some of the basic factors. Based on my experience it works; I have been practicing gratitude by writing gratitude diary and changing my inner talk to myself for some years now and I feel more happy.

Kindness was mentioned as an important indicator which unites happy people. It´s easy to agree that being kind and helping others in unselfish way make us feel profoundly happy. I think that gratitude and kindness are related also to equality and non-discrimination.

Capability to concentrate is related to engagement and achievement. As it was said in the article, we can improve our own ability to concentrate: all you have to do is meditate. Good news for many is that you don’t have to do any formal meditation practice according to complex rules; you can just stare out the window or focus on your breathing.  (HS 25.12.2020 Hyvän mielen…)

Nature brings Happiness

With the journalist we had some silent moments and breathing exercises in forest as a prove of simple, nature based meditation. We also talked about relationships, the importance of human contact and the lack of it in these days.

a woman hugging and kissing the tree

Picture: Katja Tähjä

We really can´t replace human touch of anything but I invited Corinne to hug and even kiss the trees as it´s totally safe even during COVID-19 and also our way to calm down and get good feeling. Well-being effects of nature, such as lowering blood pressure, have been proved by  researches worldwide.

Many of my foreign friends had said that what makes us different in Finland from our neighbors is our way to connect with nature. It´s something primitive and beautiful where respect and willingness to keep on sustaining our traditions connects with the wisdom that is passed from one generation to another.

Nature indeed makes me happy, in all seasons and wherever I am. My nature is diverse and it´s open to anybody who respects its uniqueness and power which is stronger than us.

I want to thank for this opportunity to work together with wonderful professionals in my last working day in 2020.

Thank you Corine for you inspiring visit in Finland! Hope to see you here again!
It was a beautiful experience to stop and reflect on what happiness really is.

Today I am happy to celebrate the third anniversary of my company Mood of Finland Oy
My decision three years ago to follow my dreams and taking the risk has been worth of it.
I feel very grateful!

Thank you for following by blog.
Wishing you happiness and all the best for 2021!
With love,
Anu

ps. The journalist mentioned in my blog has published a professional article about  Happiness Le Monde – La vie Magazine in French. She was hosted by Helsinki Marketing (Sara Jäntti)

And finally, I invite you to watch the video of some ”haiku” poems I have been writing last year (in Finnish). They are a mixture of nature, love and a hint of melancholy.

Rakkauden Metsä tarjoaa mahdollisuuden vaikuttaa

Rakkauden Metsä – matalan kynnyksen kokeilujen tulos

Rakkauden Metsän tarina alkoi maaliskuussa 2016. Idea on jalostunut, jäänyt välillä kokonaan uinumaan mahdottomalta tuntuneen toteutuksen vuoksi ja taas noussut kohti uusia kokeiluja.  Voit lukea tarinan alkuvaiheista täältä: Rakkauden Metsä

Rakkauden Metsä – konsepti rakentuu uudistavan palvelutarjonnan ajatukseen;  pyritään haittojen vähentämisen ohella ja sijaan etsiä keinoja, joilla voimme tehdä enemmän hyvää, tuottaa positiivisia vaikutuksia ja korjata jo aiheuttamiamme vaurioita ympäröivään luontoon ja paikallisyhteisöihin ja kulttuuriin. Lue lisää aiheesta täältä: Uudistava matkailu

Rakkauden Metsä – konseptin idea on yksinkertaistunut vuosien varrella. Lopullinen idea on seuraava:

  1. Symbolisen rakkauden puun voi istuttaa haluamalleen kohteelle tai ihmiselle (puolisolleen, lapsilleen, lapsenlapsille, isovanhemmille, työyhteisölle, jo menetetylle läheiselle yms).
  3. Puun istutuksesta ostetaan todistus, johon kirjataan puun tiedot ja Rakkauden puun tarina.
  4. Jokaisesta maksetusta todistuksesta lahjoitetaan 10 euroa Luonnonperintösäätiölle ikimetsien suojeluun. Hiilinielujen lisäämisen ohella on tärkeää tukea toimia, joilla varmistamme luonnon monimuotoisuuden säilymisen.
  5. Vaihtoehtona tarjoamme vanhan ”kummipuun” suojelemista

Leuto syksy mahdollisti puiden istutuksen vielä lokakuussa. 25.10.2020 Lopen Rakkauden Metsään istutettiin puu menehtyneen ystävän muistolle. Jokaisella Rakkauden puulla on tarina ja merkitys.

Rakkauden Metsä Loppi

Rakkauden Metsä on yritykseni Mood of Finlandin alatoiminimi ja rekisteröity tuotemerkki. Rakkauden Metsä on globaali mahdollisuus tehdä hyvää ilman rajoja.

Yksi Rakkauden Metsän haaste on löytää paikkoja, joihin puita saa istutta.

Idean alkutaipaleella hanketta lähti tukemaan Helsingin kaupunginvaluutettu Leo Stranius, jonka aloitteesta Helsingin Vuosaareen avattiin Rakkauden Metsä 28.8.2020. Vuosaaren Rakkauden Metsä on projekti, jonka toteutuksesta on vastannut Helsingin kaupunki.

Leo Stranius teki aloitteen Helsingin Vuosaaren Rakkauden Metsästä. Avajaisissa puheen piti myös Anni Sinnemäki

Kaupunkilaiset saivat varata  puuntaimen etukäteen ja kaikki 280 puuta istutettiin niille varatulle paikalle yhden tapahtumapäivän aikana. Voit lukea lisää tästä: Rakkauden Metsä Vuosaari

Rakkaudesta metsiin ja luontoon

Rakkauden puun istutus on kaunis hetki.

Do I really need to pay for this?

While you are on vacation, we are at work.

I would be extremely happy if all the travelers read this blog article. It´s a show of respect for all those working in Tourism Industry, fighting for their livelihood in these difficult times.

To start – it´s understandable to envy Tourism professionals who seem to be privileged while working in careless atmosphere with relaxed and happy people. Working in Tourism business is a kind of vocation: we love to do what we do and don´t count the hours when flexibility is needed – often because of unforeseen and involuntary change – to make sure our guests are happy and pleased.

There are also plenty of lucky professionals  working outdoors, free from the stagnant atmosphere of offices, schedules, annoying bosses and Excels. Lucky them! The only sad side is that there are jobs and pay only when there are paying customers. This year, less than ever, but still, those who love their work are ready to serve when jobs call.

What one sees while meeting professionals is the best part of the show: the moment on stage, authentic performance that has been practiced and even the famous plan B has been done. Tourism professionals have studied years to gain skills and continuous further training is necessary.

The job description also includes mandatory and regularly renewed certificates such as safety passport and first aid certificate. Language skills, emotional intelligence and general knowledge are required for natural and genuine interaction.

Tourism professionals have been blamed for poor financial management

We cannot avoid the fact that there are lot of life style entrepreneurs in Tourism industry.  But is it a problem or a shame?

Life style entrepreneur aims to do one´s  best and does the work, not only with reason but also with heart. The other fact is that there are also entrepreneurs who do not have studies or skills in all the required areas relevant to the business and can´t be blamed for that.

Running a tourism business is the sum of many skills and that makes it also challenging. Entrepreneurs should buy outsourced services insofar as their own skills or time are not enough. Purchase of these services may seem like an extra expense  – specially when cash flow is low – even if they are necessary from the point of view of service quality and profitability in the long run.

Poor financial management can be due to the difficulty of pricing. The price of a tourist service consists of very many parts. The most challenging part has been shown to be the pricing of  entrepreneur’s own time although it is ultimately the most important resource. Another risky price reduction target is the staff.

Pricing is one of the invisible background influences when the curtain rises and the show begins – do we have any paid audience? How we have convinced the guests that this service is worth the price, how we redeem the promises and how we ensure that the price is so attractive and profitable that the curtain can be reopened again and again.

Yes, you really should pay for the service

The state of emergency caused by COVID-19 and the crisis have raised the debate about the pricing of tourism services to the social media channels favored by domestic tourists and from there on to traditional media and back again to social media.

Entrepreneurs have tried to make their voices heard to justify the prices.  Interest in nature based tourism and domestic destinations has grown which is very positive phenomenon. Tourism companies have developed new services in new situation trying to understand the needs of the new segments. The challenge has been the short season, which follows the holiday times of domestic tourists, marketing and pricing. And the fact that there are few of us, 5,5 million people live in Finland.

Finns travel the most among European Union citizens, more than 90 percent of those over 15 years make at least one trip (Eurostat 2017). The average Finn makes eight trips a year, half of them in Finland (according the studies before COVID-19). The study conducted during the Finnish Travel Fair 2020 in Helsinki confirmed the same result. Now, what matters us most when living this special moment of COVID-19, are the services bought and money spent.

Travelers are not used to spend as much money  while travelling home as when travelling abroad. The picture above shows, among other things, that Finns are used to accommodate on a domestic trip mostly in own cottage or with friends and relatives – for free.

Finns are used to spend time outdoors in nature with no need for guided services. Surviving alone and planning one´s own trip can still be merit for many. We live in a time of attitude change and can´t expect the accustomed way of doing and thinking changing in an instant. But we all can influence and be agents of change.

I had a great experience on a fully organized hiking trip last summer:  Hiking in Senja – understanding the beauty and power of nature.

How about making pricing visible

Instead of arguing about the right price level (which is increasingly tied to values), we could look for ways to understand each other. Responsibility is a value that affects the pricing and should be made visible.

International studies show that customers want responsibly produced services and are willing to pay for them. Studies also show that when the moment comes, the only choice for many consumers is still, unfortunately, the price.

At the moment, making responsible choices while producing services and ensuring the most ethical production chain can rise the price. Finlayson (Finnish textile company established in 1820) has made brave responsibility communications in Finland.

Finlayson launched an advertisement (picture above) a year ago promoting duvet coves in two different prices which were also available for purchase. They showed that the price difference was due to responsible choices.

Concrete doing helps to understand the challenges

My respect for those who make their living by providing tourism services in Finland has risen further since I launched a nature based service as part of Love Forest Finland concept: Forest Walk during which a Love tree is planted. My livelihood is not dependent on this product but it has helped to understand the harsh everyday life when you simply can’t find paying customers enough.

I have started to publish the prices and the costs behind them in very open way. You can find an example of it below:

Regenerative tourism service in Mood of Nature

I have commercialized this concept in accordance with the Regenerative tourism paradigm and I can tell you, I can’t just praise a good cash flow.  My financial balance for this concept is far from positive even though I have been studying and working in Tourism industry all my life.

You can read more about Regenerative tourism (in Finnish) in my blog and for more information in English I suggest you to follow the studies and articles by Anna Pollock.

One and last question: ”Now that you know where the price is made up, what would you be willing to give up to make the price lower?”

Thank you for following my blog. I appreciate any comments and feedback.
Let´s  keep on acting for better future.

With love,
Anu

Rakkauden Metsä

Rakkauden lukot? So last season

Maailman metsäpäivä ja oivallus! Suomessa on käyty alkuvuonna 2016  yhteiskunnallista keskustelua metsien suojelusta ja metsähallituslaista. Metsien monimuotoisuuden suojeleminen on päivän puheenaiheena.

Suunnittelussa tarvitaan ammattilaisia jotta metsän istutus hoidetaan vastuullisesti ja harkiten, luonnon ehdoilla ja ympäristöä kunnioittaen.

”Repeaterit”!

Todennäköistä on, että pari käy katsomassa puutaan ainakin tärkeinä suhteensa vuosipäivinä ja haluavat ehkä tuoda jälkikasvunsakin puun luokse kylään. Voihan käydä niinkin, että joku haluaa kaataa puunsa rakkauden loppuessa, joten pelisäännöistä pitää sopia. Rakkauden metsästä tulisi varmasti vetovoimainen kohde ja me saisimme matkailulle tärkeitä ”repeatereita” Suomeen.

Anu j a kuusi

Rakkaudenmetsä on totta!

Päivitys 26.6.2020:

Ensimmäiset Rakkauden Puut on istutettu lunastamaani pieneen hehtaarin metsään Lopelle. Helsingin Vuosaaren Rakkauden Metsän avajaisia vietetään 28.8.2020, johon tarjoalla olleet puuntaimet olivat varattavissa kaupungin avaamilla sivuilla.

Muistoksi ostetun todistuksen hinnasta lahjoitetaan 10€ Luonnonperintösäätiölle ikimetsien suojeluun.
